Sneak A Peek At The Catherine Malandrino x Kohl’s Collab!
WWD reports that the designer took her team to the City of Lights to gather inspiration, touring them around landmarks like Pigalle, the Musée Rodin, and the Pont des Arts, which they translated into 80 individual styles for the mass retailer. Some bear more literal homages to the city, like a dress featuring a digital print of Paris’ dazzling rooftops, and others more subtle hints, like a black and white cardigan whose graphic stripes echo those of Buren’s Columns that dot the Palais Royal courtyard. As the designer told the paper:
“I always go to Paris for a reason but this time I wanted to step back as a woman who wants to rediscover Paris with all knowledge to make it more of a secret adventure for them. I feel every city has a soul. New York is all about transformation. Paris is all about timeless propositions.”
And if that doesn’t feed your Francophilia enough, Malandrino also revealed that she took a page from the book of Sartre, Picasso, and Rimbaud, and sketched some of the looks on a placemat at the storied Les Deux Magots café.
The collection marks DesignNation’s third designer collaboration following those by Narciso Rodriguez and Derek Lam and will hit stores in late September and early October. While Malandrino has ventured into the lower-priced market before with her Catherine Catherine Malandrino line, these pieces will be her most affordable yet at only $36 to $130. Better yet? Some of the proceeds will benefit the CFDA.
