Coach Is Suing Jo-Ann Fabrics Over Its ‘Signature C’ Logo
Is nothing sacred anymore? First Christian Louboutin‘s red soles get copied (twice!), and now Jo-Ann Fabrics is peddling a fabric that looks like it’s covered in Coach‘s “Signature C” logo. As such, Coach is taking legal action against the company.
According to WWD: “Filed in the Northern District of Illinois, the lawsuit claims that the pattern of elongated Os found on the Blizzard Fleece fabric sold by Hudson, Ohio-based Jo-Ann in stores and on its Web site has likely caused ‘consumer confusion’ as it resembles Coach’s C trademark.”
We found a (small, crappy) picture from the legal documents showing these “elongated Os”, and we did more than a double-take. They look just like Coach Cs! Well, they look just like a really bad Canal Street imitation of Coach Cs. Coach discovered the fabric in February, and has since filed a lawsuit claiming trademark infringement, as well as “trade dress and copyright infringement, trademark counterfeiting, false designation of origin, false advertising and trademark dilution.” And what do they want in return? “An injunction, statutory damages of $2 million per counterfeit mark, per type of counterfeit good, punitive damages, attorneys’ fees and other costs.”
Wow, we would not want to be in Jo-Ann’s shoes. Check out the (small, crappy) photo of the fabric below. For reference, we’ve included a picture of the real deal above.
