How Much Stuff Did America Buy On Cyber Monday?
Well, congratulations, Internet shoppers. If you bought something online on Cyber Monday, you were part of the tidal wave of hard-earned dollars that increased overall sales some 33 percent, according to data compiled by IBM.

In its annual Cyber Monday Report, the computer company found that sales increased one third over the Monday after Thanksgiving in 2010, and although the report doesn’t specify just how much money got spent or how many people spent it, it does show a pretty marked increase in the power of e-commerce.
Even more telling is how many people used their mobile devices to buy things. Nearly 11 percent of people who shopped on Cyber Monday did so from their iPads, iPhones or other mobile devices — though we should point out that as far as mobile buying goes, Apple products take the figurative cake. And PayPal — the company that allows you to make secure payments through an online account — reported a 552% increase in mobile transactions on Cyber Monday. Talk about an uptick.

The Los Angeles Times says IBM has compiled its report every year for the last four years, and this year analyzed “terabytes of raw data from 500 retailers nationwide.” Of course, the increase in Cyber Monday sales isn’t that surprising when you consider that most people were probably just trying to avoid getting pepper sprayed on Black Friday.
