FNO Recap: Tory Burch Burgers, Tavi, And Too Many People
by Verena von Pfetten | 10:54 am, September 11th, 2010
Last night, New York City celebrated the 2nd Annual shopping event street party that is the Vogue and Anna Wintour -organized Fashion’s Night Out. And whether you were out, at home in your pajamas, or indifferent, we spent the night stomping around Manhattan and elbowing our way through the crowds to bring you everything we saw, heard, and, well, ate.
We’d also recommend checking out our Twitter feed for a play-by-play recap of the evening.
PS. For those of you who were out and about — did you buy anything? Did you see anyone buy anything? Our shopping bag sightings were few and far between, so we’re curious. Let us know in the comments!

1. Piperlime Pop-Up Shop
Rachel Zoe spent her FNO at the Piperlime Pop-Up shop where she helped shoppers style looks and signed autographs. This is also why the line to get in was about 5 people wide and ran the length of an entire city block.
2. Tory Burch
Tory Burch's block party in the Meatpacking District was as mobbed as we expected it to be -- though we're not sure which line was longer: the one for Shake Shack or the one to get in the store! There were also Tory Burch branded cupcakes, Bravo's Andy Cohen, and a group of bemused police officers.
3. Elizabeth and James Pop-Up Shop
We swung by the Elizabeth & James pop-up shop but the place was such a madhouse the bouncer bounced us before we could even peep inside. This is what we missed.
4. Karaoke Contest at Barney's
After signing bags at Elizabeth and James, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen teleported up to Barney's where they judged a karaoke contest. Judging by this photo, the contestants were not very good.
5. Barney's
Tavi Gevinson was not only liveblogging from Barney's FNO event, she was playing ping pong! And posing for photos with Anna Wintour.
PS. Is it just us, or is this photo is like looking into the present and the future all at once? It's terrifying.
6. Bergdorf Goodman
...Meanwhile, at Bergdorf's, Nicole Richie sang karaoke while Sarah Jessica Parker and Victoria Beckham posed stiffly for the cameras.
7. Bergdorf Goodman - Tom Ford Beauty
This was the mass of people waiting to see Tom Ford.
8. Bergdorf Goodman - Tom Ford Beauty
And this is what Tom Ford was doing.
9. Chanel's SoHo Store
There was no one famous at Chanel -- unless you're counting their limited edition Khaki nail polish collection. Free manicures for all! (Well, free manicures for all who were willing to wait in a three block line! But word is, it went quickly.)
10. Alexa Chung for Madewell
Madewell threw a party for the launch of Alexa Chung's highly-anticipated collection -- which was good because that meant you could actually buy some of it. (Most of the styles are already sold out online.)
11. Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren, unsurprisingly, was a civilized affair. While there was certainly a line, there was also Anna Wintour, which meant no pushing, shoving, and no voices above a whisper. (Just kidding about that last part.) Halle Berry was also on hand to sign issues of September Vogue.
12. Kim Gordon for Sportmax
Kim Gordon's event at Sportmax was a glorious bastion of civility -- minus the fact that they'd run out of booze by the time we got there. That said, the crowd had thinned enough for us to actually talk to our high school (and present day) icons -- her husband and Sonic Youth bandmate Thurston Moore.
13. Ferragamo
Ferragamo's FNO event was private -- and security was tight -- but once you got inside, this is what you saw: lots and lots of beautiful people . Also, their new W bag.
14. Teen Vogue and ASOS
Actress Shenae Grimes held court over the West Village's Perry Street, where Teen Vogue editor-in-chief Amy Astley feted the US launch of ASOS. Grimes, clad in a skirt from the brand, told us that she takes her fashion very seriously. "I love men's 60s and 70s fashion. I feel way hotter in leather pants any day than I do in a cute little mini dress."
15. Teen Vogue and ASOS
After the guests on Perry Street took in an ASOS runway show and chatted with Teen Vogue editors Andrew Bevan and Eva Chung, singer VV Brown entertained the crowd. Before going on stage she told us she wouldn't get to see Fashion's Night Out because she was taking a red eye back to London to prep for her second album. But she's still a dedicated fashion lover, and loves the mix of high and low. "Do you like my ASOS dress?" she asked the crowd in between songs. And the crowd approved!
