Forever 21 Pulls Kurt Cobain’s Flipper Shirt From Shelves
Forever 21 really likes to play it fast and loose with copyright law. Not long after coming under fire for appropriating trademarked Navajo prints for their $4 undies, the fast fashion retailer decided to start selling a t-shirt designed and worn by late Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain.
According to Seattle P.I., Forever 21 pulled a replica of Cobain’s “Flipper” tee from its stores and website yesterday, after selling it for the bargain price of $16.90.

As a refresher, Kobain “designed” the shirt himself with a white tee and a felt-tipped pen in homage to the San Francisco punk band by the same name. Besides wearing it out and about, he most memorably wore the tee for a 1992 appearance on Saturday Night Live.
Anything related to Nirvana is notoriously fraught (and not just because Courtney Love and Dave Grohl hate each other), but if you’re really into the shirt, may we recommend buying it from WornFree.com, which claims to sell a “fully licensed and endorsed” version for $45.
