Gilt Groupe’s Helmut Lang Sale Is Not Actually A Sale

Attention sale mongers hoping to score some edgy Helmut Lang wares on Gilt Groupe today! You just might want to un-excuse yourself from your mid-day meeting because word is that when the clock strikes 12, the current collection will go on sale for… drumroll… full price.

Yes, folks, you read that right. According to Gilt insiders, the “Not-Sale” is in fact part of a “Strategic Partnership with HL Group” that is about more than just “moving excess inventory.” Because as strategy goes, getting couture-crazed women revved up for an online sale that isn’t going to happen is always a good idea.

Instead starting today, about 20 pieces from the designer’s spring range will be featured, including leggings, tanks and a $780 leather jacket. “We worked very closely with the Helmut designers to pick what we thought our members would respond to best,” said Gilt vice president Jyothi Rao.

Funny, we thought Gilt members responded best to deeply discounted designer duds. Sounds to us like someone’s got a case of Net-a-Port-envy.
