Is Gilt Groupe Launching Their Own In-House Line?

It’s no secret that Gilt Groupe is the Queen of flash sale sites, but what is hush-hush is the fact that they’ve apparently been interviewing designers for a potential in-house line.

A source told WWD that Gilt has been secretly interviewing designers all around town — but to what end?

The publication speculates that Gilt is either working on a branded line a la ShopBop.com’s Bop Basics, or hoping to do something more along the lines of Target’s Go International collections — and the answer lies in what kind of designers they’re been meeting with. In order to launch a successful line of diffusion collections, they’d have to kick off with someone big, and we can’t help but think we’d have heard whispers of a bold-faced name or two by now.

We suspect both options would be a hit — it’s just a question of which one they do first. It seems like it would be easier to launch an in-house line masterminded by a talented if not necessarily famous designer — to at least prove that they have the clout to make it sell. And once something like that does well, we’re sure no small amount of big name designers will be clamoring to jump on board.

Either way, Gilt certainly has something up it’s sleeve, and we can’t wait to see what.

Gilt is a great site if you like to buy designer clothes. If an undershirt and gym shorts are your go-to outfit you won’t find much there. The site is invite only, so if you know someone that is a member ask them for an invite, otherwise you can use my link: gilt.com/invite/wpd
