PHOTOS: Isaac Mizrahi’s Wedding Gowns For The Aisle Are ‘Iconic’
The wedding dress market keeps getting more and more saturated, which means brides-to-be have tons of options when it comes to picking a gown. In recent months we’ve seen Costco and Urban Outfitters launch bridal lines, and Vera Wang team up with David’s Bridal. Now Isaac Mizrahi is getting in on the action, debuting an online-only collection for The Aisle.
Starting Tuesday, members of the luxury bridal e-commerce site will be able to choose from six Mizrahi-designed gowns costing between $2,200 and $4,500. The dresses come in sizes 0 to 14, or brides can opt to submit 10 measurements for a customized fit. The capsule collection will be available for six months, and will also include minaudieres and jewelry. To sweeten the deal, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Good Shepherd’s Services, Mizrahi’s favorite charity.
Mizrahi is no stranger to wedding dress design — besides creating gowns for his eponymous label, he has also sold his bridal wares at Target. While online retail is fairly new terrain for wedding apparel, Mizrahi isn’t worried: “The best place to shop for your wedding gown is the privacy of your own computer…The way I am going about it is breaking down that kind of purity and the final use of a wedding dress. There was a time when you couldn’t get away with that kind of lack of irony. For a woman, a wedding gown is the most important thing she’ll wear in her life and on that day she wants a dress of her own.”
