Jason Wu For Target Is Almost Totally Sold Out (UPDATED)

Jason Wu for Target launched today! How did the mass retailer do? While a Missoni-level disaster was averted, we do have some things to discuss.

First of all, the collection went live on the Target website at midnight, despite no official announcement from Target or Wu. That’s right — shoppers weren’t told when exactly the items would become available online. This may have helped Target avoid an enormous strain on its server during a particular window, but it also made a lot of customers very unhappy. Who wants to stay up all night refreshing their browsers?

Those who assumed the collection would be available on the site beginning at 8 a.m. EST (that is, when the first stores were to open) found that the majority of items were sold out as they had already been on sale for eight hours. As of Sunday afternoon, only 11 out of the 49 items offered on the website were still available.

Interestingly, Target is only marking online exclusives whose stock has been depleted as “sold out”. Items that are also sold in stores but are sold out online are marked as “available in stores”. If you click on these items, you can check the inventory of said item at a Target near you. This is a helpful feature, but most stores also seem to be sold out of the pieces in question. Of course, you could hedge your bets over on eBay — 4,681 items match a “Jason Wu for Target” search.

UPDATE: As of Monday morning, only four items were available on the Target website. As per the Target Style Twitter account, they will be restocking select items from the collection online, but brick-and-mortar stores will not be replenished.

How did shoppers fare? According to Target fan blog Target Addict, the website was not without its issues: “One woman said she had tried to order online in the wee hours, only to have items ‘disappear’ from her cart, much like what happened to many online shoppers with Missoni.” While many customers were happy with the collection, commenter Cara wrote: “The sizing was all over the place, as were the materials.” The sentiment was echoed by Pat elsewhere in the comments: “I’m small in stature but a 10/12 and was amazed by how large the sizing was.”

Our readers also told us that some stores were more heavily stocked than others, and that most enforced a 2-pieces-per-style purchase policy. There was also a purchase limit on the website, in an effort to curb reselling. We don’t know how sucessful that strategy was, as 11,419 items marked “Jason Wu for Target” are now being sold on eBay.

I was at 2 Targets in Henderson, NV which is just outside of Las Vegas area at 8am.  The first store had a small line of people waiting and because it is a lower volume store didn’t have all of the collection.  I managed to grab the cream cat t-shirt and the red and blue striped dress.  They had a couple of other dresses and I tried them on but didn’t like the way the fit so I put them back.  I probably should have kept them and sold them on e-bay which a lot of people seem to be doing.  They had the canvas bag and a couple of older ladies came in and grabbed all of them.  When I got to the other store in my part of town they were picked bare so I gave up after that.

Was up when items were on sale last night, but didn’t want to buy the clothing without trying it on and seeing it in person first. I don’t know if anyone else has this rule at their Target, but there was a limit at mine of 2 purchases per item. So, we weren’t allowed to buy more than 2 items of one style.

Anyway, woke up bright and early and was one of the first people of about 20 people. I bought the navy blue blouse with the black tie, the black pleated skirt, and the straw clutch. I was going to buy the navy, floral, sleeveless chiffon dress.. but the chest area has weird ruffles. I was also planning to buy more accessories. However, a male in a running outfit and headphones (that none of us women suspected because we thought he was in line for a video game) grabbed the limit of ALL of the accessories.

Once I was done trying on the clothes, there were women and even some dads trying to find clothes for their family. The employees kept telling customers that asked about the collection, that they don’t plan on getting any more shipments. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but those Target employees were already annoyed the second we walked in.

Also, I’m all for colors – but the yellow/black/cream dress pictured above isn’t all that flattering in person

LOL @kkitt don’t “older ladies” deserve a shot at the Milu Tote Bags?  I have to laugh because I am one of the “older ladies” (and proud of it) who actually snagged one online.  Enjoy the t-shirt, I also scored one of those.

Agree!  When I walked into Target there were 10 left.  Customers inspected it then moved on.

I bought the black faille dress and the navy striped dress–exactly what I came for–but snagged the trench coats in large to try on and they were huge! I’m small in stature but a 10/12 and was amazed by how large the sizing was. Would have loved the navy trench!  I was in Burbank and there was a very short line when I got there at 7:45. I went right for the dresses and feel fine and happy.

I didn’t mean “older ladies” as a put down, just not the demographic I was expecting.  The lady I was talking to was there just for the accessories and not the clothing.  She told me she is a doll collector and had met Jason Wu after a convention she had attended.

I went to two stores in Minneapolis that opened at different times and was able to get more than I was looking for. I fear that I went a little too crazy, but everything was cuter than anticipated! Our shopping experience was very pleasant, as people were quite chatty and offering up sizes that they did not want while sharing advice on sizes and styling. I only saw one person load up their cart with the entire stock of handbags, which was rather rude but it seemed that overall people were being very thoughtful with their purchases.

I have to agree with her.  I was only interested in the Milu Tote Bag, T-shirt and scarf.  Most of the collection is not age appropriate for myself (except the t-shirt).  Actually that is how I learned about Jason Wu because I used to collect dolls.

I went to the Target in Pasadena. I got there around 8:45 (45 minutes after they opened) and there were no small sizes left. But I waited around for 10-15 minutes and stuff trickled back from the dressing rooms! I was able to snag the navy dress with stripes in a 4 and the light blue skirt with stripes in an 8. I am really happy I went to the store and didn’t order online! The sizing was all over the place, as were the materials. The skirt looked not cute on the model but was actually super flattering in real life. The navy dress was as great as the pictures but definitely ran a bit big. I’m glad I didn’t order the 8 online like I was planning!

I live in the valley in Texas. No lines, no high demand got to target around 9:00AM it was very peaceful. I had to choose between items because I had over $400 in my cart :( Then I went to two other targets and they still had a lot of stuff. I was checking for variety but I was happy with my first purchase so it was ok. I could tell by the 3rd target racks were getting emptier but not ridiculous.

I had bought three items online, one of them being the shorts exclusive to Target online. The two sweaters shipped, but almost a week later, I am getting an email that the shorts which I ordered are now unavailable and my order has been canceled.

ok,A short time ago I have felt the identical hitch, this is such as the circumstances when you want to perform somewhat although you can’t since your illness will not allow you. But when I tried the cure, I was great. Take that!

That is very positive information, I can remark I made the equivalent thing while I detected the similar dilemma like the person who is talking.
