Jimmy Choo Debuts $600 Line Of Sneakers
It’s no secret that Jimmy Choo has expanded their distinguished shoe line, creating more accessible footwear for the average shopper unwilling to drop upwards of $500 on a pair of heels.
Last spring, Tamara Mellon, the founder and president of Jimmy Choo — and recent Terry Richardson subject, joined forces with the esteemed Brit brand Hunter, recreating the classic rainboot with a crocodile embossed twist for $425. Last fall, as part of a collaboration with H&M, Mellon created a collection of platforms and stilettos, priced at just under $200 –- a budget-conscious buyer’s delight. Both of these partnerships have proved successful ventures for the legendary shoe company.
Today, Nylon reports that Mellon’s most recent endeavor is the sneaker — a $600 sneaker at that. So much for our hopes that these high-tops would parallel the price point of H&M’s stilettos! Although the shoes are not for sale yet, photos have been released, and I must admit –- I am not impressed. Between the patent leather and metallic shades, the sneakers look more like a bad pair of Nike Dunks — which are priced at a much more palatable $80 — than couture. Perhaps more fittingly, the peeps over at Fashion Makes Me Horny likened them to a “roadkill combination of a Converse sneaker and a garden snake.”
