Bedbugs Shut Down Juicy Couture’s NYC Flagship

We weren’t aware that anyone was still shopping at Juicy Couture, so we were a little shocked this morning when we found out the brand’s Fifth Avenue flagship has bedbugs. And then, we kinda weren’t — because all that velour tracksuit karma was going to come home to roost sooner or later.

The store’s management closed it down Tuesday after discovering a few of the little critters Monday night. It’s said that they expect to open the store back up by the end of the week, though we doubt a few days of steaming is going to kill all of the bugs hiding in the 15,000 square foot space. Assured Environments, the firm Juicy hired to get rid of the bugs, has assured that they can kill off all the bugs in time for weekend tourists to make guilty pleasure purchases aplenty.

Juicy Couture’s other three New York stores are in the clear, but with as many bedbugs as there’ve been all over New York’s retail hotspots (from Victoria’s Secret to Niketown to Bloomingdale’s and Macy’s), we’re not entirely sure that’ll be the case for long. Until then, maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to do what you were already doing and just stay away from Juicy Couture.

Everyone needs to exercise some extra caution during their holiday shopping this season. Inspect new purchases upon bringing them home for signs of bed bugs. It is a good idea to shake out/dust off new clothing over a white bathroom floor or bathtub before wrapping them up or putting them into your closet. A few changes to our daily routine can drastically reduce the number of new bed bug infestations this holiday season.
