Would You Buy A Necklace Designed By Kate Middleton?
Before she was the girl who would be queen, Kate Middleton was an accessories buyer. Seriously! She worked as an assistant buyer for UK retailer Jigsaw for about a year, until she became a website designer and photographer for her family’s party planning company — a job she’s quitting as she eases into royal life.
Jigsaw is what the Brits call a high street brand, or what Americans call a fast fashion chain (think H&M, Topshop and the like). During her time there, Kate collaborated with jewelry designer Claudia Bradby on a necklace for Junior Jigsaw that is now being reissued. Claudia calls Kate “utterly charming and really rather impressive; focused, creative, thoughtful and kind,” and says she “thought it would be a good idea to reissue it to celebrate their engagement.”
We think the necklace’s reissuing capitalizes on the engagement more than it celebrates it — and unlike Charlotte Todd, Claudia seems eager to cash in on the royal hullabaloo. Also, dare we say the necklace (which retails for about $72) looks like something straight out of the QVC engagement ring knockoff collection?
