This New Startup Is Like Having A Personal Stylist
Fashion works in mysterious ways. Sometimes you buy something you love, wear it a couple of times, then unconsciously relegate it to the back of your wardrobe. Other times you emergency-purchase a tank from the sale section and suddenly you can’t live without it.
So we’re kind of intrigued by Le Tote, a new startup subscription service that sends you a bag of everyday clothes and lets you choose how long you want to hang onto them. It sounds like a blend of Rent the Runway and old school Netflix – you pay the $49-per-month subscription fee and fill out a style profile, then one of Le Tote’s stylists will choose three garments and two accessories based on what you’ve told them. You can wear them as much or as little as you want, and if you love something just keep it and you’ll be charged automatically. Prices range from around $50 for a dress and $30 for a shirt.
Maybe we’ve lived in New York for too long, but we’re thinking of signing up just to cut down on trips to the laundromat. You can receive and send back as many totes per month as you like, and they’ll take care of all the washing. Though we’d recommend purchasing the optional insurance plan if you’re particularly bad with things like red wine.
Of course this means the clothes you receive won’t always be brand new, but we like the green aspect. At least makes a bit more sense than the recycling plan proposed by H&M – who, FYI, just launched online shopping today.
