300 Million Macy’s Hangers Will Now Be Eco-Friendly

Pretty much everyone is going green these days, and now Macy’s is getting in on the action. Its most impressive effort? Replacing the 300 million clear petroleum-based plastic hangers it uses each year with matte black ones fashioned from recycled material.

The transition should be complete one year from now, and it’s just one of the big changes the retailer is making. Macy’s is also in the process of installing LED lightbulbs in its stores, as well as eliminating foam food packaging and using recycled paper napkins. A few stores are even getting self-serve electric car charging stations!

Oh wait, and did you catch that 300 million hangers a year bit? That’s maybe the part that fascinates us the most. SO MANY HANGERS!

What is happening to the old hangers? How are they being recycled?

EXACTLY what I was thinking Parissa. How does it make sense to send 300 million hangers to the landfill in the effort to be “Green”? Sounds more like a publicity effort than an eco-friendly effort.

the plastic will be melted down and reused to plump the kardashian girls’ asses.

the old hangers will go into the trash… and did you know that when a single glass or plate from a set is broken, ( even the crystal and china), the whole set must be trashed!!! I see tons of great stuff go into the trash compactor, including sofas, tables, mannequins, padded satin hangars, bookcases, gift with purchase items that were not given out, the list goes on and on….believe me….I know, I work there
