Is Naomi Campbell Designing A Denim Line For Fiorucci?
Naomi Campbell is, above all else, a totally kickass supermodel. She’s gorgeous and talented and so good at what she does — but could jean design be her true passion?
No, we don’t think so. However, she is rumored to be debuting a denim collection for Fiorucci. There are plenty of reasons why this is weird! First of all, Naomi is a big deal, and there has been close to no promotion for the line which is supposedly being unveiled this week. This week, by the way, is Milan Men’s Fashion Week. This is also strange, because is Naomi designing men’s denim? We’re not saying she can’t design dude duds, but we’re surprised she wouldn’t attempt the easier-to-crack lady’s jean market.
Also weird? The fact that she choose to collaborate with Fiorucci. Fiorucci was cool decades ago (we’re talking the late ’70s and early ’80s), but was then plagued by all sorts of business disputes and failures. We just don’t understand why Naomi would attach herself to a brand like that, but perhaps this is part of some genius plan to resurrect the Fiorucci name. Or maybe they’re just paying her a whole lot of cash. It’s definitely a different kind of brand than the last she was supposed to design for. In 2008, she inked a deal with Brazil’s Daslu, quite possibly the most luxe department store in the entire world; little became of the collaboration.
Well, Naomi, show us what you got!
