Narciso Rodriguez Has Been Given An ‘Advisory Role’ At Banana Republic
We love Narciso Rodriguez for his sleek minimalist designs and worldly outlook, and we love Banana Republic for their attainable price point and wearable collections like the upcoming Anna Karenina capsule (if not so much their Photoshop techniques).
So we’re pleased to hear that the retailer has tapped Rodriguez for a very special advisory role, created just for him. A press statement from Banana Republic states that the designer will be working “in partnership with its Executive Vice President of Design and Creative Director, Simon Kneen.” He’s due to report for duty beginning on Monday, but we won’t see the impact his ideas have on the brand until the Fall 2013 collection.
So why Rodriguez? The company underlines his “modern aesthetic and passion for great American sportswear” as driving factors behind the high fashion hire. We might also point to the wealth of experience he has under his belt in designing for mass market brands. The news of his new advisory position comes just a few short months after it was announced that the designer would be creating an Istanbul-inspired capsule collection for Kohl’s, due to hit stores this November. He also worked on an affordable eight-piece line with eBay back in 2010. Narciso fans, rejoice!
