Patrick Robinson Fired From The Gap

Patrick Robinson was fashion’s ultimate rising star just a few short years ago when he was hired at The Gap. But after seasons of lackluster sales, the American megabrand has decided to fire him.

Robinson had served as the company’s executive vice president of Gap Global Design for Adult and Body since 2007, when Gap poached him from Anne Klein to be its design savior. Before that post, he was credited with making Giorgio Armani‘s Collezioni label profitable, something the Gap brand needed desperately. Robinson was hailed early on as someone who “has a good idea of how to make fashion accessible.”

But Gap customers never really responded to Robinson’s brand of accessible fashion, and as a result the Gap has had to try a number of different methods to keep those cust. After a new logo sparked a barrage of controversy, the Gap fired its North American president Marka Hansen and moved its creative operation from San Francisco to its new Global Creative Center in New York City.

All of this makes us wonder whether or not any one designer could actually save the Gap. While WWD reports that the brand is doing well internationally, at home things aren’t going that well.

A search for Robinson’s replacement has been launched. In the meantime, Rosella Giuliani, head of the brand’s 1969 denim product label, has been asked to fill his shoes.

Your timeline’s a little fuzzy. Robinson was at Anne Klein in the 90s trying to clean up after Richard Tyler. Before the Gap he was at Paco Rabanne and Perry Ellis. And I don’t think Armani Collezioni has ever been unprofitable, but that’s where Anne Klein hired him from some 15 years ago

    FINAAAAAAAAAALLY.
Hopefully they can stop making their products out of atrocious fabrics and get back to being a quality brand.
