WATCH: Prabal Gurung Talks ‘Love’-Inspired Target Collaboration
We’d like to say we’re tired of all of this collaboration madness — from Margiela x H&M‘s conceptual wares to Neiman Marcus x Target x CFDA‘s humungous holiday haul — but how can we be over it when Prabal Gurung is so gosh darn excited to finally get his turn designing for the masses?
Gurung’s Target collaboration was announced yesterday, along with a single picture of a model sporting a short suit in psychedelic florals. Being the greedy little kids that we are, we’ve been hungry for more ever since. Luckily, Style.com has heard our whining and granted us the below video, in which the designer talks about the milestone moment of being approached for a capsule collection with the retailer and his process in creating the collection, which is inspired by love, or more specifically the journey of a girl falling in love:
“I imagined this girl and the diary she kept during that time, and then right before she got married, she went back and read it. It is literally her journey—it is kind of where I am in my career today.”
We also get a teensy glimpse at some of the merch we can expect to hit shelves come February 10: a white flutter-sleeved top not unlike some of the ones we saw walk the runway back in September, electric blue pumps, and rack upon rack of duds in springy greens, raring reds, and icy metallics.
