One Of Hedi’s Saint Laurent Babydoll Dresses Costs $68,000
You can never be too rich or too thin…for Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent, at least. In the year since he took the reins at the house, the designer has been lambasted for everything from using bony male models to starting schoolyard beef with journalists, and now, he’s opening himself up to cut-eye from both critics and consumers alike with a seriously prohibitive pricing strategy. To wit: the grungy ’90s-inspired babydoll dress that Cara Delevingne sports in the fall ads will set you back $68,000.
From his controversial grunge-inspired collection, the minidress features a Peter Pan collar, tiny puffed sleeves, and ample embellishment. It probably shouldn’t be worn by anyone over the age of 25 (Courtney Love being the obvious exception). And again, it’s $68,000.
Per Style.com’s report on the label’s newly opened Soho store:
“[The racks] include not only the Spring line but select previews of pre-fall available for pre-order, which tend toward the unstintingly luxurious. For men, there are the sequined jackets worn by Daft Punk in Slimane’s photos; for women, the embellished baby-doll dress worn by Cara Delevingne in the new ad campaign. It will run you a cool $68,000. But as spaces to consider such a life-altering purchase go, the new store is very good.”
