It’s the season of spending! And shoplifting? The holidays are inching closer, which means people are shopping. A lot. But they aren’t always paying for everything they’re going home with.

AdWeek has some pretty crazy statistics on shoplifting. Did you know that 1 in every 11 shoppers shoplift? And that 3% of shoplifters are “professionals”, while 75% are employed adults? THIS IS NUTS. And yes, this is a big deal — stores are projected to lose $119 million this year from shoplifting alone.

The kinds of things people steal are pretty crazy, too. Sneakers, women’s perfume, and alcohol seem somewhat standard, but shoplifters also target expensive meat, razor blades, and Axe products. Filet mignon, in fact, tops the list! You learn something new every day, we guess.

With the glut of Gillette razor blades for sale and the prices they command, I imagine this is why I noticed that they were under lock at the local drugstore. They also had a camera located to the side of the case. The store price being almost $3.50 for a blade but you can get them for under $2 on Ebay.
