We Chat With Stuart Weitzman As He Gets Ready For FNO
Shoppers aren’t the only ones gearing up for Fashion’s Night Out, designers are too! Stuart Weitzman is throwing a shindig at his Madison Avenue boutique, and we were able to talk to him about FNO, Fashion Week, and more.
Weitzman will be unveiling his Young Hollywood Cares shoe collection tomorrow evening with the help of Michelle Trachtenberg and Hayden Panettiere. Trachtenberg, Panettiere, Scarlett Johansson, and Olivia Palermo each designed a shoe for the collection, the proceeds of which will benefit Dr. Marsha Moses‘s ovarian cancer research at the Folkman Institute.
What tips do you have for shoppers braving the crowds during Fashion’s Night Out?
Shop! Take this opportunity to buy your favorite items in your size while they are still available, and in many cases, a wonderful charity will benefit.
How did you get involved with ovarian cancer research?
We’ve been donating and bringing awareness to women’s cancers for many years, specifically breast and ovarian. What Dr. Moses is doing at The Folkman Institute for cancer research is groundbreaking.
What Fashion Week show are you most excited to attend?
I will be heading to Europe, so unfortunately I will miss the shows, but I’m excited to kick off the week at Fashion’s Night Out. Everyone is happy to be back for the new fall season on that night.
Michelle Trachtenberg and Hayden Panettiere are known for their work on TV. What are your must-see shows?
I spend most of the year in Spain, so I don’t watch much TV here in the US.
As a graduate of Wharton, can you speak to the importance of designers understanding the business side of the industry?
I was one of those lucky designers who had himself as his business partner; although not a necessity, it’s certainly a big help.
What kinds of shoes should women never wear?
I would just say that a woman should never wear a shoe that doesn’t make her feel good!
And here are the shoes! Which one’s your favorite?
