Sylvester Stallone Is Launching A Clothing Line
Sylvester Stallone is launching a men’s clothing line based on his characters from the Rocky and Rambo film franchises. Now go back to the start and read that sentence again. Did you do it? Are you excited? Because we seriously cannot wait.
Stallone and his business partner Michael Henry talked about the line in the most recent issue of Men’sWeek, which is sort of like Newsweek, except it’s about the men’s wear industry. Sly (Can we call him Sly?) told the mag he’s been inspired by the fashion business for years — he’s even been asked to lend his name to a clothing line in the past. It just didn’t feel right until he was ready to do it on his own.
The actor said he had to start buying bespoke duds when he dropped about 25 pounds between Rocky 2 and Rocky 3, and he hasn’t looked back at off-the-rack clothing since: “Nothing fit so I started buying custom clothing. I found out I really like this world.”
The label, which will go by the name Stallone, will be targeted at a pretty wide base. When it launches next year, it’s expected to hit mid-tier retailers like Macy’s and hopes to make a big splash with guys between 25 and 40. Stallone won’t just have clothes — it’s a full lifestyle brand that aspires to cover outerwear, underwear, fragrances, grooming products and even eyewear. Ambitious? Yes. But Stallone sounds like he really cares about these products, even if the Men’sWeek article makes him sound a little like he doesn’t know what he’s in for.
“… now that he has several years under his belt exploring his own fashion sense, he’s ready to share his knowledge with others. “I hope that what worked for me will work for others,” he said. “I really believe I have an understanding of the male psyche on all levels. I want to expose people to things that will work and this is the apropos time. I’m not experienced in this field, but we have the proper team to move this vision along.”
We do too. Because even if the last thing the fashion industry needs is another celebrity clothing line, we think thiks one is actually going to be pretty fun.
