DVF, Rodarte & More Team Up With eBay For Anti-Copycat Campaign

Dying for a designer bag but don’t want to shell out the money? The CFDA would really like it if you didn’t buy a knock off. In fact, top designers are so concerned you’ll go buy a fake that a number of famous brands are making a line of cheap canvas bags to satisfy both your label craving and your pocket.

Designers of the limited edition bags include Diane Von Furstenberg, Badgley Mischka, Tommy Hilfiger, Tory Burch, Jason Wu, Marchesa, Kenneth Cole, and Rodarte. Talk about an all-star lineup! Each bag is different, there’s everything from clutches to totes, and they’re all very true to the designers’ unique styles.

For example, the Calvin Klein-designed bag is an evening clutch with a bejeweled clasp, whereas the Tommy Hillfiger tote has “prep” written in blue type accross it and has a nautical rope strap. They all bear the tagline “You Can’t Fake Fashion.”

The designer bags will retail for $150, while the CFDA-designed ones (simple white with the tagline in blue) will be $35. All sales will be through online auction house eBay, which is infamous for it’s problem with vendors selling counterfeit designer merchandise.

A number of designers have spoken out in recent months on the increasing number of designer knockoffs being sold. Not only are fakes better quality these days, but the online marketplace has made it easier for counterfeiters to market their goods as real.

All the sales from the canvas bags will go towards the CFDA, which is trying to find a way to combat the knockoff problem. And while buying a canvas Tory Burch isn’t the same buying one from the designer’s line , it’s a cheap(er) alternative and you can be 100% sure it’s not a fake.
