Zaha Hadid x United Nude Shoe Is A High Fashion Hoof From The Future
Need a dramatic shoe to go with your outrageous Charlie Le Mindu haute coiffure? Iraqi-born architect and darling of the fashion world Zaha Hadid has just the thing. After being commissioned to design Stuart Weitzman’s new Milan flagship it seems she’s caught the shoe bug (one of the most easily transmitted of all sartorial afflictions) and has now made some fancy footwear of her own as part of a collaboration with United Nude.
The futuristic hoof shoe has been named the ‘NOVA’, and is made from metallic chromed vinyl rubber lined with kid nappa leather then stacked with a fiberglass platform heel. We’re kind of in love with how they look like they’re going slice your foot into four clean pieces like some kind of high fashion magic trick, and they’re born to be a prime target for photographers loitering around the Lincoln Center come September.
“I have always appreciated those who dare to experiment with materials and proportions,” Hadid tells WWD. “Our collaboration with United Nude reinterprets the classic shoe typology, pushing the boundaries of what is possible without compromising integrity.”
Hadid has previously designed limited editions for Brazilian labels Melissa in 2008 and Lacoste in 2009, created the prototype “Icone” bucket bag for Louis Vuitton in 2006 and has collaborated with Swarovski several times on jewelry. She’s also the name behind Chanel’s Mobile Art container, and Naomi Campbell’s house.
The shoes are currently being displayed at L’éclaireur in Paris. They’ll be made to order in colors including silver, black, bronze, and gold, and are priced at £1,300 ($2,000) a pair. A little out of our price range, but listen carefully and you can hear the opportunistic minds of Jeffrey Campbell’s design team buzzing like jackhammers.
