WHOOPS! Pricing Error Costs Zappos $1.6M

Zappos might be known for their customer service, but it cost them and their sister site 6pm.com more than a pretty penny this weekend. 6pm, known for highlighting daily discounts up to 70% off on branded products, accidentally capped the cost of all items listed on the site at $49.95 from midnight to 6AM on Friday.
In a blog post on their site, Director of Brand Marketing & Business Development Aaron Magness wrote:
While we’re sure this was a great deal for customers, it was inadvertent, and we took a big loss (over $1.6 million – ouch) selling so many items so far under cost. However, it was our mistake. We will be honoring all purchases that took place on 6pm.com during our mess up.
Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh didn’t seem too broken up about it. He tweeted:
$1.6 million mistake on sister site @6pm_com. I guess that means no ice cream for me tonight.
