Sarah Burton showed her third solo collection for Alexander McQueen in Paris this afternoon, and like the two that came before, it was beautiful. Intricately tiered gowns were topped with lacey masks that were as haunting as they were beautiful. The floor-length dresses were undoubtedly the show stoppers, but the detailed corsets and proportionate ruffling of the suits shouldn’t be overlooked.
Burton deserves every ounce of credit she’s been given — and more — for her seamless transition from backstage assistant to front-and-center creative director of a critically hallowed line. In fact, it’s almost impossible to say where McQueen ended and Burton began, and that begs our only question: are we seeing Sarah Burton for McQueen? Or Sarah Burton channeling McQueen as only she knows how?
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
