Chanel has officially marked its territory…all the way ’round the whole wide world. As if Karl Lagerfeld would settle for anything less than global domination.
Luckily for him, he may not have to, since this morning’s show is sure to please fans from Beijing to Abu Dhabi right back to the Grand Palais. For the occasion, the space (that has clearly been razed of the forest he erected there not two months back) played host to a massive globe that reached nearly to the glass ceiling, dotted with lights and flags marking each one of the brand’s 300 boutiques worldwide.
If that was too subtle for you, the models circumnavigated the sphere to the tune of Daft Punk’s “Around the World” wearing the glorious garb of Planet Chanel. Which, today, included classic tweeds rendered in a number of modern shapes, like youthful flared minis, sculpted jackets, and double-layered skirts, one zipped over the other. The thigh high, skin tight leather boots that were worn with most of the looks lent a dash of futurism to the collection, as did patent trim and some intergalactic silver-blue looks.
Perhaps we just have globes on the brain, but one knit pencil skirt with lurid bright pink and orange splotches gave us the impression of continents seen via satellite, while other looks evoked a starry night sky. And let’s not forget the headgear — if anyone can put his girls in fuzzy fur helmets and get away with it, it’s Karl.
Our only concern: with world domination well under way, what’s the next frontier? The moon?

this is some kind of spaceship or something.
