Victoria Beckham Forces David To Design Menswear

Victoria Beckham has convinced David Beckham to design a menswear collection under her VB Denim label. And when we say convinced, we mean she twisted his arm until he said yes.

The good people at Vogue UK saw an item in the Sunday Mail saying that the former Spice Girl has been asking — nay, pushing — her footballer husband to design guy’s clothing for her for ages, and that the launch of her newly branded line was just the leverage she needed to make it happen.

“Victoria has been trying to persuade him to do it for a while and he’s finally succumbed,” a source told the Mail On Sunday. “She has reassured him that he has an eye for fashion.”

The line will be launched in time for spring/summer 2011, and will include “an entire range of men’s couture clothing of fitted suits, smart day wear and an evening range.”

But David isn’t just abiding Victoria’s orders — WWD reported last year that Beckham would collaborate with designer James Bond on a collection for Adidas Originals, so the new collection is really just an inconveniencing exercise of his creative muscle for his wife’s financial gain. Or something.

We will say that David has impeccable style, or he has since he’s been married to Posh. We would also say that we’d be excited to see what he comes up with if we weren’t so sure Victoria’s fashion filter would alter it fundamentally before it got to the runway.

I love that he’s designing a collection with James Bond. I think it’s funny that she’s even going through the motions to make it seem like his collection. It will probably end up looking remarkably similar (read: the same) as her designs.
