Diesel Black Gold was one of the few shows at which we actually got a seat, but even if we’d had to stand, it still would have been one of our favorite shows.
Why? Sophia Kokosalaki‘s mix of tailored leather and suede jackets, jeans in any color other than blue jean blue and dresses with flowing silk skirts and tough leather bodices took its cues from the West Cost and put it against the backdrop of the East Coast — literally. The runway was backed onto a long window overlooking a part of the New York City skyline, and everyone from Bryan Boy to Teen Vogue’s Amy Astley to Hilary Alexander — along with 700 other fashion people — was in attendance.
But it was the combination of soft and hard, shiny and matte, tough and girly — and even men’s and women’s looks — that makes this collection so well-balanced. The clothes have the best of both worlds: effortlessly wearable and undeniably fashion forward. Check out the exclusive footage of the runway presentation below, and our top five looks in the slide show.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
