FLASH FASHION: More Tailored Classics At DKNY
Chic and ladylike are the words that come to mind for the DKNY spring/summer 2011 collection. Although a bit run-of-the-mill by this fashion week’s standards –- tailored looks and neutral colors sound familiar? -– Donna Karan’s trendier line includes go-to pieces that will no doubt be staples of any fashion darling’s spring wardrobe.
Karan, like so many other designers, hopped on the sartorial bandwagon this season with sleek trousers, work-appropriate blazers, and simple femininity. Flouncy dresses and khaki trenches also made their expected appearances, and long-panted rompers appeared on yet another NYFW runway. However, mixed in among the sea of traditional silhouettes were standout details and one eye-catching accessory that seemed to hold the whole collection together: the DKNY Heritage scarf. From neck adornments to full-on dresses, this scarf was that bit of flare keeping Karan’s collection unique and interesting. And the standout details? Beautiful ruffles, luxe fabrics and pops of unexpected color that deviated from traditional candy-like hues for spring.
Despite the fact that the overall theme was perhaps a bit expected this season, DKNY’s collection is a showcase of exquisite pieces and wearable trends that we’re already coveting for spring.
