FLASH FASHION: DVF Shows A Solid Collection

We here at Styleite had the distinct pleasure of watching the live stream of Diane von Furstenberg‘s spring 2011 runway show at the DVF Lounge, a space right next to the designer’s New York flagship that houses lots of technological goodies, like a touch screen that lets you scroll through the collection with the drag of a finger. A gaggle of bloggers and tweeters and fans of fashion joined us as we munched on delicious food from Indochine and waited for the show to begin.

And when it did, the noisy room went silent — half out of respect (this is DVF we’re talking about, after all), and half out of amazement at what it was seeing. For her Goddess collection, the designer seemed to go back to her roots, taking the wrap dress to whole new heights by bringing its hemline down and adding a hood, for example, or sticking to the original proportions but bringing in a new print. She coupled the clothes with round sunglasses, sumptuous oversize bags (and fanny packs!) and shoes we’d gladly kill for.

And while no one denies that DVF is the master of mixing prints, some of our favorite looks from among the 50 shown were the ones done in solid colors. Whether color blocking a dark suit and a bright shirt, or showing a simple, one-color dress, the designer proved she and the women she dresses can make as loud a statement with solids as with prints.
