Our Official Guide To All The Free Stuff You Can Snag At The Tents

New York Fashion Week‘s worst kept secret is that it’s not quite as exclusive as it seems. You don’t need a show ticket or a pair of glitter booties to gain access to the tents at Lincoln Center — or to all the freebies that await.
To enter the tents, you’ll most likely be asked to show your credentials or a show ticket. Don’t have either? No problem! Pull up any old QR code on your phone, flash it at security, and waltz right in. EASY! Once you’re in the lobby area, there’s tons of free stuff for you to snag courtesy of deep-pocketed sponsors. Here’s what you’ll find:
Drinks: Fridges of Aquafina and Diet Pepsi can be found every few feet. Hydration (and caffeination) are key, people! Unlike in years past, there are no wine or Starbucks cocktail stands. However, Pepsi will be handing out boozy drinks on Friday afternoon and Sunday night.
Food: Sadly, the only real free food available this year are Fiber One bars. We got an oats and chocolate one that wasn’t too bad, but we much prefer the Momofuku cookies and cake truffles that are available for purchase at the cafe. You can also buy bagels, fruit, salads, and sandwiches. And if you’re around Monday or Tuesday afternoon, you’ll be able to get some hors d’oeuvres from the Pepsi folks.
Beauty: There is so much free beauty goodness in the lobby! After every big show lets out, Maybelline is handing out items from its spring collection. Mercedes-Benz teamed up with Essie to give out a different color of nail polish every day, and each color matches a Mercedes car finish. (Today we got Licorice, a rich and glossy black.) Tresemme is giving out samples of its Split Remedy shampoo and conditioner, and you can set up an appointment to get some dry styling done in between shows.
Reading material: Pick up free copies of Women’s Wear Daily, New York Magazine, T, Gotham, Fashion Week Daily, and the New York Times Style section.
Internet: Lincoln Center’s wifi is notoriously fickle, which is why the so-called “blogger pit” rules. Hole up at a table with your laptop, and enjoy plenty of outlets and ethernet cords to combat the wireless issue. If you didn’t bring your computer with you, you can use one of the MacBook Pros at the Maybelline station. You can also check out the computers at the WGSN kiosk. Five machines are dedicated to browsing the WGSN website and the Vogue archive (you can also sign up for a one-week trial of the archive!), while one has complete internet access.
Other swag: Additionally, you can walk away with a CFDA notebook and all sorts of Pepsi gear (pens, pads of paper, mints, Jonathan Adler-designed straws). And if you’re really getting into the spirit of things, you can get your picture taken by the people at DHL (yes, the shipping service) who will print out a copy right on the spot. Also, this isn’t really swag, but Barbie is offering free coat and bag check.
Go forth and get thy free stuff! (And try to sneak into a show or two while you’re at it!)
