Greg Lauren, nephew of lifestyle brand-unto-himself Ralph Lauren, plans to launch his own luxury clothing label this spring.
The jury is still out on what the label might be called, but WWD says the clothes will be hand-sewn by Greg himself. They’ve already been picked up by Barney’s New York and what is described as a “a select group of top specialty retailers.” Information about what the clothes looks like is on a strictly need-to-know basis, too — other than to say the line includes men’s and women’s clothing, there’s no indication as to what type of audience Greg wants to reach.
To figure out what the man thinks about clothes in general, we delve into his artwork. In fact, when he’s not making 30-second appearances in movies opposite Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey (Greg was the guy who jilted J.Lo’s character in The Wedding Planner), Lauren has been hard at work on some pretty serious artwork. It seem he’s been examining the intersection between fashion and art in his recent exhibit Alteration. Whether or not he’s managed to answer that age old question “Is fashion art?” won’t have an answer until the first round of spring deliveries.
