Hervé Léger Takes A Sexy Sojourn To The Deep South For Spring
As purveyors of sexy, look-at-me bandage dresses, Hervé Léger often skews a little more club girl than cool girl. But not so this season. For one, the pieces were all in neutral tones, save for a few pops of rich cobalt, so the look wasn’t nearly as flashy as in seasons past. Furthermore, designer Max Azria took inspiration from the quilters of Gee’s Bend, Alabama, which translated to unexpectedly intricate, sometimes kaleidoscopic-looking dresses that flew way beyond your run-of-the-mill bodycon. There was slightly more diversity to the shapes this season as well, with knife-pleated dresses, elaborate swimwear, and one ivory bodysuit that is just begging to be worn on stage (hear that, J. Lo?)
Leather harness strapped atop the majority of looks brought a different kind of sexiness to the Hervé look, while the shoes called to mind Vivienne Westwood‘s iconic Pirate boots — a far cry from the usual nightlife fare.
That’s not to say the brand’s loyal fans will be disappointed though. We chatted with one of them, Olympic gold medal sprinter Sanya Richards-Ross, who we’re sure could run laps around us even in the four-inch stilettos she was rocking in the front row. “You know what? I totally could [run in heels]. I haven’t done it though. I’ve done some shoots in dresses and heels and it’s really fun coming off the blocks and stuff. But I don’t think my coach would like it.” If any there is a time for running in heels, however, it’s fashion week, and Richards-Ross has certainly been making the rounds at Lincoln Center. “BCBG and Hervé Léger are two of my favorite brands, so to be going to the shows and sitting front row at Fashion Week, it’s been like a dream come true.”
