PHOTOS: Jean Paul Gaultier Dedicated His Couture Show To Amy Winehouse
From the soundtrack to the hair to the artfully placed lip piercing, Jean Paul Gaultier‘s spring 2012 couture show was nothing so much as an ode to the late Amy Winehouse.
Winehouse, who passed away this summer from accidental alcohol poisoning at the age of 27, was known as much for her vocals as she was for her signature winged eyeliner, beehived hair, and retro style. Backstage at the show, Gaultier told WWD, “I think Amy Winehouse was truly a fashion icon,” and added that he “felt compelled to celebrate her style because magazines have failed to do so.”
Related, Karl Lagerfeld dedicated part of his 2007-2008 pre-fall collection for Chanel to Winehouse.
Take a look at Gaultier’s most Winehouse-inspired looks below. Do you think it was an overdue homage? Or too soon?
