We’re all about letting your freak flag fly, especially when it comes to fashion. This said, upon first glance at Jeremy Scott‘s first runway collection for Moschino, we’re disappointed. We absolutely loved how he re-imagined the Italian fashion house for the pre-fall line, with its tongue-in-cheek, yet luxurious and sexy wares. However, Scott headed into garish (yes, even for him) territory for his highly-anticipated Milan Fashion Week debut. To be fair, he did admit he was overwhelmed with excitement. “I feel like a child at Christmas with new toys, I can’t play with just one,” is how he explained the collection to WWD just yesterday.
However, many of the designs, from the Spongebob Squarepants motif looks to the Kraft Blue Box Macaroni & Cheese ball gown, simply alienated us. While we’ve come to expect such statements from Scott, we’d rather he reserve these overt pop culture references for his eponymous label, and instead show a different side of himself at the helm of the storied house. This isn’t to say we want Scott to lose his signature madcap aesthetic, Moschino has always been known for its sense of humor after all, we just want to see more looks that factor in wearability. this is some kind of spaceship or something.
