JW Anderson’s Menswear Of The Future: Capelets, Clutches, Colostomy Bags
Are you sick of your boyfriend raiding your wardrobe? Don’t you wish he would just buy his own lace halter-necks and crop tops? Well find relief in this JW Anderson collection that nobody ever asked for!
Straight from the runways of London and into your Monday afternoon, here’s an army of men sporting lace halters, crop tops and one-shoulder capelets. The designer told WWD, “We honed in on different proportions…to find something new in men’s wear, you have to go further to reduce, and go further again to try to redefine a silhouette.” We guess slashing the hem off a shirt is one interpretation of “reduce”.
This isn’t the first time JW Anderson has toyed around at the heights of androgyny. He also designed a capsule collection for men and women, featuring lots of lace and bodycon crop tops, for Donatella Versace’s Versus line. But while we’re all for a good bit of gender-bending, it has to sell clothes: and we can’t exactly see those lacy halters flying off shelves.
