Kanye West Is Working On His Own Fashion Label In Paris

Wondering why Kanye West isn’t working on a new album? Rumor has it the fashion-loving singer set up a studio in Paris — but not to record in. He’s there to design his own fashion line.

The Daily Telegraph reports that West has made Paris his headquarters as he tries to (re)launch a career in fashion. According to an unnamed source “close to the designer,” West is working on a high-end line of men’s and women’s clothing that’s maybe debut as early as September.

Of course, West has worked in fashion before. His limited-edition line of scarves inspired by the cover for his latest album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, were smash hits with the fashion crowd. Before that, he interned at Fendi, collaborated on a line of sneakers with Nike and Louis Vuitton, and even wrote a fashion column for Complex magazine. West is a verified industry darling and front-row staple (except for that time he got thrown out of an Vuitton show). He’ll present Celine‘s Phoebe Philo with an award at next week’s CFDA Awards.

West had been working on another label called Pastelle, but announced in late 2009 that it would never be released. And that, for us, was really difficult to deal with.

So you can imagine how excited we are now that West is creating a full line on his own terms, not just creating accessories for someone else. We refer you to pictures of West in the past for an idea of what the clothes might look like, but his own wardrobe is so varied that there’s really no telling what he might come up with.
