Kimberly Ovitz has earned herself a substantial number of fans since her ready to wear debut in 2009. Lindsay Lohan wore one of her white bodycon numbers to court two years ago, Leandra Medine gave her flats-on-the-runway idea two big thumbs up, and Anna Wintour graced us all with her presence at the designer’s fall show. But, as it turns out, the latter collection will never see the light of day — or, more accurately, the fluorescent glare of retail stores — because Ovitz has decided not to produce it at all. What gives?
According to WWD, the designer released a statement explaining the decision, albeit in the vaguest of terms:
“We are in the process of exploring new opportunities for the label and will not be fulfilling orders for the fall line at this time. We will be working on a number of collaborations and initiatives, including a new collection with Shapeways, which we hope to roll out soon.”
Shapeways is the 3-D printing company she partnered with for the nifty nylon jewelry that accompanied her fall collection, so at least fans will have that to tide them over come next season. Plus, according to the paper’s sources, Ovitz may also have a handbag and makeup line in the works, and plans to return to ready to wear in a couple of seasons.
And, in case you were fearing a tantrum, it looks like LiLo is already well stocked for her rehab attire.
