Transgender model Léa T made a splash two years ago when she was cast in Givenchy‘s Fall campaign by friend Riccardo Tisci. Since then the Brazilian has made out with Kate Moss on the cover of Love, posed for swimwear campaigns, appeared on Oprah, and hit the runway post-sexual reassignment surgery.
Now, she’s popping up on the catwalks of Europe — well, make that one catwalk. Léa strutted her stuff on Saturday for designer Philipp Plein, a designer probably best known for his unparalleled stunt casting skills. First, he had Mischa Barton mug for his brand (though he subsequently Photoshopped beyond recognition), then he put out a campaign starring a glittery skull of a merkin, then he hired the ever-reliable Lindsay Lohan, and finally he enlisted Gossip Girl‘s Ed Westwick for both his show and Terry Richardson-lensed campaign.
While we are totally on board with Léa getting some runway exposure, it’s too bad the move just reads like the latest in a long line of publicity stunts. And the props don’t exactly help, either:
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
