Art for Fashion’s Sake: The Best of Milan Fashion Week’s Painterly Runways

Ciao, Milano! It was grand. We watched the Prada, we marveled at the great gilded peacock Anna Dello Russo, we bid Carine Roitfeld bon anniversaire and we learned the chic potential of furry neck braces.

We were also given much in the way of evidence that yes, fashion can be art. Fausto Puglisi, MSGM and Just Cavalli hand-painted and embroidered with retro, tropical fauna and fronds. PradaAntonio Marras and Aquilano.Rimondi summoned painters and sculpturers including Gauguin and Kathy Ruttenberg to coat their clothes. Miuccia even called in mural painters to decorate her venue.

Altogether it provided a very compelling reason to wake up from London’s frothy, fairytale daydream.
