Nicola On Attending His First Show And Directing Azealia Banks' New Video

We love seeing designers supporting their designer friends in the front row during Fashion Week. Today we spotted Nicola Formichetti at the Richard Chai show, so we decided to chat him up about his very first NYFW show ever, his plans for the week, and Azealia Banks.

What brings you here?

I live here, and Richard is one of my really good friends. So supporting friends, Richard. And actually I’ve never been to New York Fashion Week! I went backstage by mistake, so we had to run over through here, and my invitation didn’t work.

Well, welcome! What else is on your agenda?

I’m doing a party with Tumblr. I’m hosting a party with them on Wesnesday. We’re doing this thing that’s really, really amazing.

Yeah? Can you give us details?

We’re inviting all these hackers to do a live hacking of some sort. And there will be music…I don’t know. And I’m going to give away all my toys and sutff. I have some of the new stuff to give away. I’ll tweet about it a few days before.

How is prep for the Mulger show going?

Thursday I’m going straight to Paris. Paris, this is going to be the one I think for me. Everything is completely set. It’s head-to-toe new Mugler, and it’s really good.

How do you keep sane with all the Fashion Week madness?

Accupuncture. Coconut drinks and accupuncture. That’s it.

Can we talk about Azealia Banks? We know she played your show last month, and we think she rules.

Yeah, I just directed her video “Liquorice”. I’m editing as we speak. I’m almost done, and I think we’re going to launch it very soon.

How would you compare working with Azealia to working with Lady Gaga?

They’re two completely different people. Their similarities are their passion towards music and fashion, and their being real, and that they’re nice people. I only work with nice people.
