Pre-fall collections aren’t celebrated with the same amount of sexy, hyper fanfare that main stage spring and fall collections get, and in the case of Oscar de la Renta that’s a damn shame. His pre-fall 2012 collection, presented yesterday in New York City, didn’t feel all that different from a show during Fashion Week.
Maybe that was because the collection was shown with the same spirit that De la Renta shows all his clothes with: Similar venue, similar crowd (Anna Wintour and Grace Coddington of Vogue sat front row, and Hamish Bowles snuck in at the last moment and had to stand) and similar clothes. Leather skirts paired with gauzy shirts and jackets, fox fur scarves and vests accented with big brooches, and dresses with sequins sewn on in whimsical patterns. A pair of wide-leg teal pants paired with a white shirt and a simple cardigan caught our eye, and so did a gold dress topped with a gold three-quarter-length bolero that looked like it was made out of hammered gold coins.
If that wasn’t enough of an indication that this collection was rich, we don’t know what was. Take a look at a few of our favorite looks below.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
