Roberto Cavalli has been designing clothes for decades, but his sheer, shiny, fringed 40th anniversary collection shows not one sign of age — an uninformed admirer of the clothes would be easily forgiven for thinking that they were the work of a much younger man.
But it’s Cavalli’s experience in dressing women that allowed him to make such fanciful clothes in the first place. Everywhere you look there’s a garment dripping in leather fringe or sparkling with hand-sewn crystals. He sewed patches of snakeskin so tight they corseted the legs and bodies of his models, revealing just enough skin to call the clothes revealing, but not enough to say they were immodest.
And for one of his models, all the revealing and stalking around in heavy leather fringe was well worth it. WWD reported earlier that Natalia Vodianova was paid somewhere between $70,000 and $90,000 to open the show, and to appear at his $2 million party in Paris next month. But for a guy who’s come so far and done so much in his career (he can even dress your dog at this point) it’s a small price to pay for a celebration.
this is some kind of spaceship or something.
