PHOTOS: What We Saw At Roberto Cavalli’s Tel Aviv Fashion Show

This week in Israel, Roberto Cavalli showed his spring 2012 collection to an audience quite possibly more rapt than that which saw the original Milan showing in late September. While you may be shocked to learn worldwide fashion weeks are still going on, we were even more surprised — make that tickled — that our trip to Tel Aviv Fashion Week would give us a second look at the glamorous collection.

Why Tel Aviv? Cavalli has ties to the city, which has not held a major fashion event since the ‘80s. The designer explained that the city inspired him with its creativity, and that he was grateful to have a reason to come back and promote such an event. Cavalli also told us he had no muses, but noted: “If you want to come into our planet, you have to be different.”

The stunning collection was full of long embroidered gowns, skin-tight animal print frocks, and sequined flapper-style cocktail dresses. “One dress can change your life, one dress in the right moment,” Cavalli said. “If you’re depressed, if you don’t know if you’ll be with your boyfriend, it gives you the energy to change your life.”
