Hare-Raising Headwear Has Its Moment

There’s a lot to love about the Easter Bunny: he’s cute, cuddly and brings us pastel-flecked chocolate. But unless your name is Jessica or you happen to be dating a guy named Hugh, you’ve probably never given much thought to the idea of dressing like the furry fellow. Until now.

Behold the latest trend in hare-raising headwear: The rabbit ears.

First seen hipping and hopping down the runway at Louis Vuitton a few seasons ago, the now-iconic ears have been finding their way into quite a few recent pictorials and even onto the ever-trendy tete of Ms. Susie Bubble. Seems Alice wasn’t the only fashion forward femme to take a tumble down the rabbit hole, eh? Of course, in context it almost makes sense. What is a pair of floppy bunny ears but an Upper East Side bow come undone? And a wittle touch of wabbit a la TopShop’s demure satin take seems almost tame compared to the avant-garde creations known to be worn by a certain fame monster, i.e. giant telephones.

Granted you may lose a little bit of dignity wearing a pair of these but for the daring, an ear-encrusted band adds a bit of girlish, Wonderland-inspired whimsy. A warning: the line between cute and creepy is a fine one and there’s something about girls in animal costumes that just seems a tad pervy. Paging Terry Richardson.

So are you ready to hop on it or is this just another topper trend that’s plain ear-itating?
