FLASH FASHION: Tons Of Texture At Tibi

With a mix of neutrals and brights, the spring/summer 2011 collection from Tibi comes off as refreshing and oh-so-spring appropriate. Texture was the name of the game as designer Amy Smilovic infused her pieces with crochet, tweed, basketweave, pleating and lasercut fabrics. The result was a dynamic collection for women who “don’t want to look like they live at Urban Outfitters, but don’t want to look like they live at Bergdorf’s, either,” as she told Style.com.

Pieces in juicy yellows, purples and oranges were our favorites, a break from the neutral palates that overwhelmed Fashion Week. It was also nice to see many of the looks paired with flats. Because as much as we like to report on falling models, we do like seeing more realistic ensembles go down the runway. (Riding the subway in 6-inch heels? No thanks.)

Amy Smilovic, the woman behind Tibi, knows women’s bodies. And, judging from her designs, loves the hell out of them. Her models had simple ponytails, a clean face and a berry lip. Nothing to distract from the clothes, which were wearable to the extreme: flattering for any body type, unique and the type of dress that will last a lifetime.
