Since launching his womenswear label in 2010, Tom Ford has shown his collections in presentations of utmost exclusivity — no photos or social media allowed. This year, however, it was announced that the designer will be staging his first full-scale runway show during London Fashion Week in February. And not only that: he’ll even be inviting bloggers!
Ford told Vogue UK that the size of his company now necessitates a much larger production than he has put on in past seasons. “This is going to be for 500 to 1,000 people. Photographers, bloggers – a regular, real show,” he explained. “I want to show in London because I now have 100 stores worldwide. The company has jumped and I can no longer service the stores by not showing. So I have to love it and embrace it.” Hopefully he can learn to do just that, because we certainly will!
The designer also revealed that he hopes to stick around the city while raising his children (his first son, Alexander, was born in September):
“I hope it works here, because my dream goal is to raise my children here. I’m very old fashioned, When I was little, I was brought up to say, ‘Hello, Mr Ford’, ‘Hello Mrs so-and-so’, ‘Sir and ma’am’. I want that for my children… I’m only here 180 days [of the year], but I like the humour, the formality, the manners, the irreverence in England.”
Well, Tom, we’re sure it likes you right back.
