TIME WARP: Men’s Fashion In 1954
The more things change, the more they stay the same. That’s what we can tell from this vintage fashion newsreel from 1954, in which various male models show off the latest styles for summer.
And what we mean by using that aphorism, of course, is that men’s fashion will always have two very distinct ends. The one that adheres to the classic standard of a beautifully tailored, single-breasted suit in a good fabric and the other that will do something outlandish like cutting the sleeves off the suit jacket and wearing it with Bermuda-length shorts.
Also, and I feel badly about this, but does anyone else get a really gratifying feeling watching these guys getting carted around like pieces of meat on that truck bed?
