On August 14th, Copenhagen will debut what they’re calling the “World’s Greatest Catwalk” for a fashion show on the pedestrian street of Strøget. Models should pack a pair of heavy-duty Dr. Scholls insoles for their trip, because the “greatest catwalk” is no less than one mile long!
And we thought Top Model’s slippery bridge would go down in history as fashion’s scariest runway.
Models will be wearing designs from over 500 Scandinavian brands as they hike it down the center of Denmark’s capital. Reassuringly enough, the street-turned-catwalk will be painted pink — so at least the organizers made some effort into plugging a little fun in this.
Supermodel and Denmark’s own Helena Christensen is, as Fashionista put it, the “patroness” of the week, but her ankles are purportedly safe from the marathon catwalk. But this raises our concerns for the 220 models who are walking this. Are the organizers going to subtract some inches off the traditional stilettos and/or adopt a flats-only rule — or is getting a page in “The Guinness Book of World Records” more important than the models’ safety?
We hope for the models’ sake that they’re taking safety into consideration. Also, we would rather not see a parade of scabs and blisters.
